I was wondering if I need to get some good mile times to help my 5k, or if I just need to work at getting my 5k time down all together. I have done XC for middle school which is 1.5-2 miles and am going to 1200m in track this year.Thank you.
At your age your 5K performance will be directly related to your endurance. If your training program is well rounded with 'speed work' and incrementally increasing running at a comfortable pace, you should see your 5K times improve. I would recommend enjoying track and competing in your 1200m and then spend some time running more often throughout the summer in a structure program developed by your coach. Your 5K times will drop quick with your speed and endruance!
