Improving 800m-1500m

Answered By Mick Grant & John Molvar

Hi! My name is Emily and I'm 15 years old, I have been involved in state competitions for 800m and 1500m and I was just wondering if you could give me any training tips as states are coming up in 2 and a bit months. Lately I have been doing different sets of sprinting one night and 3-10km the next night during the week is there any drills or different things that I could be doing to improve my 800m and 1500m times which are: 800m: 2.34 and 1500m: 5.22 I really need to get my times down as girls in state are getting low 5mins and even into the 4min mark! Any advice would be great. Thanks, Emily

I believe in improving strength through distance running, improving speed through short intervals and improving form through plyometrics. You should work out a good formula for you with your coach. These things must be worked in a good formula in order to avoid injury. A key to long term development is consistency. A rule of thumb is improving your 400m time to work on your 800m and improving your 800m time to improve your 1500m, as well as continuing to build strength. Good luck! Fun first, Coach Mick and John
