High jump

Answered By larson desiree

Question

For high school girls jv and var, what is the starting and average heights used in competitions? im 5 foot 8 inches and i'm wondering if i have a good chance. im currently running with the sprinters but my high school doesn't have many high jumpers. (i just need the heights for jv and var that are used)

Answer

Most Varsity high jump competitions that I have seen start around 4'4 and go up by two inches. (especially early season or indoors). In most high school meets it takes 4'8 and over to win. JV, usually starts lower at 4'0 and again goes up by two inches. 5'8 is a good height for a female high jumper. Talk to one of your coaches about trying the event and see how it feels! Good luck.
