Training for running the mile

My 14 yr old son will be running the 1600 meter on a track in two weeks. He plays soccer and is in very good shape, his best time is 5:03. What training can he do in a two week period to improve his time but not burn himself out? Thank you for your advice.
The best advice for a race in 2 weeks is to not overtrain. you can make sure he understands race pace with a small amount of work and some regular training. There's an old saying I use that goes something like this; "all you can do now is screw it up"
